My Philosophy of Education
Why do I want to teach?
During my internship and residency, I did a lot of thinking about my past and the teachers that I have had that made an impact on my life. I can think of a handful of teachers throughout my entire 12 years in the education system that made a serious impact on me. Looking back on those special teachers in my life, I realized that that's why I want to be a teacher. I want to be able to put the idea that they can succeed and go on to be anything they want to be into every child's mind that I come into contact with. I strongly believe that children are the future of this world and if we don't take care of our future, teach them the things they need to know to be successful in whatever they do, then we are setting our society up for failure in the future.
What is my role as an educator?
I believe that my role as an educator is to not only teach the curriculum, but teach the skills that the students will need to be successful in other areas of their lives. I also believe that I am expected to be a positive role model in those children's lives. I am to be someone that they should look up to. I will do whatever I can to help them succeed in not only my class, but in their personal lives. I believe it is important to be interested and invested in your student's personal lives. I also believe that it is my role to not teach the curriculum the same to each student. Not every student learns in the same way, so I will not teach the curriculum to each student in the same way. It is my role to find out how each student learns best and teach the curriculum to them in that way therefore they will be as successful as they can be.

I believe that a teacher is so much more than just someone that instructs the students. They are someone that inspires a student to discover their talents and interests.

Just as this picture says, every student is different. What they need to be successful will most likely be different as well. A teacher needs to be someone that can adapt to the differences in their students and realize the things that those students need to be successful in not only that teacher's class, but in their life overall.
